As a collective of young cultural workers, we share and discuss perspectives on art and existence. We create space for encounters and use this to explore social, cultural and political options for action.

Donation

The goal of Nachtsicht e.V. is to make cultural program accessible to as many people as possible. That is why the Nachtsicht Festival is free of admission. So that cultural work can still be rewarded, we depend on donations and subsidies. We appreciate your support!

Adele Tulli
×

Adele Tulli’s visually stunning documentary »Normal« is about rigid gender roles and the uncritical submission of many people to the dictates of (hetero) normativity. The director points the camera at everyday actions, rituals and scenes and through a contradicting image-sound montage makes the situations appear strange.

A »fake« commercial for a fictional airline that confronts us with our own contradictions: we all want to travel, discover the world, feel free, spend little money and visit friends in other countries over the weekend. At the same time more and more people are becoming aware of the ecological consequences of air travel. Are we ready to compromise in order to live responsibly? Is it a purely individual or a political question?

Charlotte Oelschlegel
×

Viola or bass, symphony or synthpop, E or U? Charlotte Oelschlegel can never decide which one to choose. That’s why she made this musical potpourri her calling, studied music journalism for radio and multimedia at the University of Music in Karlsruhe, Germany and took her fascination for music of all genres into her profession. For two years now she has been working as a music journalist and radio presenter at NDR Kultur – always according to the motto: Between the drawers you can find the most exciting things!

:// In the Youtube playlists put together for Nachtsicht, Charlotte raises questions, turns our listening habits upside down and provides warmth.

Christine Koschel
×

As an artist Christine Koschel deals mostly with the image of identity. The idea of a biographical identity, which can be accepted or challenging, is depicted in her work. Especially the localization of oneself in society and the connected idea of where societal expectations place a person, which also includes stereotyping and discrimination and the interdependency between self-perception and external perception, are challenged in her art pieces.

:// At the Nachtsicht Festival, Paula Kohlmann speaks with Perla Londole and Marcel Roth about the possibilities and limits of coming together. The panel discussion »His head is turning by a degree or two« is based on the radio play »Houston, Houston, Do You Read!« and is moderated by Christine Koschel. The talk is held in German.

contain't
×

The non-profit project contain’t breathes life into dead places – with art, music, performance, theory, workshops and festivals contain’t revitalizes urban wasteland. For adults, teenagers and kids. Loud and quiet, indoors and in the fresh air. Whether in a freight container, wooden structure or tent – with its mobile rooms contain’t is always ready to do the next move – into the vivid future of the city.

:// The two reporters from »What’s cooking good looking?« visited Neue Oper in the Wagenhallen area and found refreshing inspiration: How do you mix the perfect No-Perol Spritz? To mix it yourself you need: non-alcoholic sparkling wine, orange wedges, orange spritz syrup from Monin and ice cubes.

Having alma mater in her back Desir Vitom drives to paradigm paradise with various paternosters and this time she comes back with a sound of hell that informs you, steals from you, and copulates you with truth.

:// At the Nachtsicht Festival the artist sets the video single HOLY PATTERN free.

Faffa Faffa
×

Mama always said… The table has to be set for one extra person. Someone could come along spontaneously and this person shouldn’t feel »unwelcome« (aka watch while the others are eating or even stay hungry). Indeed, most often this space was occupied. Especially after word got around about how good the food tasted. Mostly it was my best friend who filled this empty space and with it her stomach (way too much). I noticed that Persian food tastes so particularly good from the way (and the amount) she ate. For me it was normal. Nobody ever left this place without raving about the food and the stories around it. That one place of surprise turned into six. If you are curious about Persian food, you come, eat, ask (or not), get to know new things or get to know something familiar from a different perspective. Hopefully, in the end, you will like it as much as my best friend did. Come and take a seat! And if you want to cook with me, go ahead.
Faffa

:// The lucky guests at Faffa Faffa’s this time are the reporters from »What’s cooking good looking?«. We try to cook the Persian dish ourselves.

James Tiptree Jr.
×

James Tiptree Jr. is the male pen name of Alice B. Sheldon (1915-1987). For science fiction fans she is one of the great classical authors. Tiptree’s mysterious identity fascinated fans and gave rise to much speculation, although everyone believed she was a man. The revelation during her lifetime was a blow: These terse, tough and cheeky short stories, which all too often ended in death, were written by an old lady with white feather curls…

:// At the Nachtsicht Festival the German translation and interpretation of the short story »Houston, Houston, Do You Read!« by James Tiptree Jr. will be presented as a radio play. We would like to thank Septime Verlag for the friendly cooperation. The radio play is in German.

Crystal Lake is about a group of young girls who take over a skate park, forming an all-female force field on the half pipe. There on the reclaimed ramp, with no boys around, they are thriving and visible. This is an anthem for young feminists, which presents female friendship as a means to survive adolescence. EVERY GRRRL-SHAPED BREATH IS A BATTLE CRY.

A Passo di Mulo (a dance for listening)

These are times of reverie.

Let words and sounds take us to imaginary worlds.

We are on stage together, back to that magical realism, the one you feel in your body.

Listen to the dance, imagine the movement.

You are strongly advised to use headphones.

Close your eyes.

Enjoy something that lasts.

Today I wander with a fixed but flexible gaze, with my knees light, and my feet continuously submerged in the dust, in the mud, in the water, in the stone. Tirelessly I go on, carrying my earth in my stomach, carrying their weight on my back. I cross landscapes of flesh, I vibrate with the cries of the deaf dust and I lose myself in the attempt to continue, to reinvent myself. I let the yellow dust mark my veins, I bear the vertical burden of my head and let the force of someone else’s breath renew me. I move and plunge, plunge and move, always forward, as Doña Esperanza used to say.

series of 3 GIFs, 500 x 500 px each

The virtual objects in the series act as doors to chatrooms on the Nachtsicht festival website. Using 3D software, Lloyd Marquart continues to explore the visceral and organic dimension in digital space. Each constellation is based on moments of exchange and explores the layer of closeness and messiness in human interaction. Although none of the scenarios feature human figures, several components ranging from a rounded plastic cube to a neatly arranged circle of stones suggest a meticulous arrangement by humans.

Marcel Roth has been a member of the Stuttgart City Council and the Green State Executive since 2019.

:// At the Nachtsicht Festival, Paula Kohlmann speaks with Perla Londole and Marcel Roth about the possibilities and limits of coming together. Maren Frey
×

Maren Frey is a multidisciplinary artist. As a part time flight attendant she photographically enacts the blur of her actions as an artist and an everyday performer on board of the airplane.

In the 24 digital drawings and collages that she created for Nachtsicht Festival she debates the status quo of a world in a rush of lifestyles, travel and consumption – that at the same time yearns for transcendental nature experiences – and decorates it with textual ornaments. Safety and absurdity. The global connector: the airplane appears as a place of mystical experience where the potential for catastrophe floats along. It is a liminal sphere where a shift in the sense of time and space happens. The technical airplane and all creatures – plants and animals and earthlings – merge and build new synapses.

Mayco
×

Mayco is a rapper and songwriter from Tel Aviv, Israel,

on the journey of self-discovery and the wonders of existence.

Mayco believes that development comes from consciousness. She tries to transcribe human emotions as tools of development.

On the EP she has worked on with her producer Jonny for the past two years she realizes these ideas in 7 short songs that both, musically and verbally, focus on the essence of emotion.

Mayco’s roots are with the Hebrew Feminist Movement.

Her show is theatrical and alien and moves between laid-back R&B, swing and jazz and the anger of old school Hip Hop and Trap.

:// At the Nachtsicht Festival you can see the artist’s late night rap show.

Mina Reischer & Felix Foerster
×

The photographer and author Mina Reischer lives in Nuremberg and writes collage-like texts that become audio pieces by using her own voice. Most of the sounds she uses supplementery come from Felix Foerster, who also lives in Nuremberg and, among others, works with the various forms of sound synthesis. The audio-visual artist publishes works using various pseudonyms, such as PERI’HEL. In February 2020, the two of them presented their interplay of text and music live in front of an audience for the first time at the opening event of the IT ISN’T HAPPENING Festival. They have been working together on their own audio productions for radio since 2019:

We would like to thank Septime Verlag for the friendly cooperation. The radio play is in German.

Our way of life is not negotiable (George H. W. Bush), 2020
performance, website, Holy Water

On August 9,2020 the artist duo Mizi Lee and Julius Nägele found a strange fountain: Ten thousands of liters of fresh water were sprayed onto a server cooling system and, after this solemn contact with the Internet, seeped into the arid ground. In a sacramental act, the artist donated a clean basin to this fountain. Since the fountain is placed on private property and is not open to the public, during the Nachtsicht Festival the water is available in bottles of 25 ml online on www.godblessyou.me.

At an interval of 20 years, in 1992 and 2012, John Vidal from Rio de Janeiro reports on the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development: “The favelas were in lockdown, schools closed and supermarkets stood empty. (…) the world had seen nothing like this before.” *

It is recommended to keep this water at home close to the wireless router and watch the recording of the sacramental act. The attached document of the Rio Declaration should also be read carefully.

Be blessed!

Music Production Workshop for Women* with Nedalot
Sunday, August 30 from 4 pm to 6 pm

Neda Sanai is a Berlin based DJ and producer that moves in the queer underground scene of Europe. With their skilful mixing of different club genres, including rap, R&B, bass music, Jersey club, 2 step, all mixed up in an ocean of twisted pop acapella, the vibe is always intense-warped-sexy. As a resident DJ for ByteFM Female:Pressure radio show and after hosting several shows at Berlin Community Radio Nedalot shows how a DJ can move in different sound spectrums and dramaturgic ideas of music.

:// In the music production workshop Nedalot will accompany the participants’ first experiences with pre-produced Loop-Kits. The workshop will be held in English and is free of admission. To register write an email to info@nachtsichtfestival.de.

She recently wrote and illustrated her first children’s book with the title »Flee, the cat that never left home«. Some of the things that she likes are ceramics, analog photography, picnics on Sundays, going camping and dogs, even though she always draws cats.

Paula Kohlmann
×

Paula Kohlmann works as a curator and dramaturge. In her work she looks for collective methods to create new spaces for thinking and working for a future based on solidarity. During her studies in literature in Stuttgart and London, she opened the LOTTE project space in Stuttgart in 2012 together with a collective, which she co-headed for five years. In 2017 she was involved in the founding of the Feminist Women* Health Center in Stuttgart (FF*GZ), for which she has been active ever since. Since 2018 she has been working as a dramaturge at Theater Rampe.

:// At the Nachtsicht Festival, Paula Kohlmann speaks with Perla Londole and Marcel Roth about the possibilities and limits of coming together. Ruxin Liu
×

Ruxin Liu, 23, works and lives in Hamburg and in the internet. In her work she mainly focuses on the stream of events in different networks.

:// At the Nachtsicht Festival three episodes of her »Exercise in the manner of Boys Love Novels« will be shown. Boys Love Novels are fantasy novels that are mostly written by women*. This type of text is full of virtual brothers and fathers and the patriarchal force that accompanies their image. What does it mean for women to inherit or take possession of most of the power of men? What does it mean when an author through their imagination permeates patriarchal images?
